I ventured again to Riyadh, or the outskirts to be exact, in April 2013 for the annual Janadriyah Cultural Festival which is organised by the National Festival for Heritage and Culture. From an expat perspective, the festival is an opportunity to get up close and personal with some ancient Saudi history and see cultural activities.
On arrival at the festival it became evident just how big was the festival, many people with lots of things to see. Fortunately we had a guide so we were ushered from museum, to traditional houses with bridal suites to fisherman making their nets and women selling their traditional craftwork from various materials such as pottery, leather and weaved wares.
There was time to sit down and watch a regional dance and thankfully small as I am me and my group were ushered to front row seats. It was endearing to hear the musical story of a grandfather telling his grandson of a past event. The dancers were indeed energetic and many in numbers.
A further stroll around the festival will lead you to an area where there are government organisations. Art museums proudly display paintings and craftwork.
You can have henna tattoos done, listen to folk poetry, visit the food stalls, tour castles
or just sit down and relax and soak in the atmosphere.

Decide if you want hosted or self-hosted platforms – WordPress has both.
WordPress is my start of choice for my blog. As time goes on I may move over to another platform, but for now WordPress serves me well.
Got to mention that the Admin isactive and working well with my blog.
One of the key functions I like about WordPress is the distraction-free writing mode.
I’m learning this area but there seem to be a high standard of editing tools too.
I’m loving the variety of customization, themes and plugins available. I tend to push how far I can customize something so this feature is my plaything for now! 🙂
