Janadriyah Cultural Festival, Riyadh

I ventured again to Riyadh, or the outskirts to be exact, in April 2013 for the annual Janadriyah Cultural Festival which is organised by the National Festival for Heritage and Culture.  From an expat perspective, the festival is an opportunity to get up close and personal with some ancient Saudi history and see cultural activities.

On arrival at the festival it became evident just how big was the festival, many people with lots of things to see. Fortunately we had a guide so we were ushered from museum, to traditional houses with bridal suites to fisherman making their nets and women selling their traditional craftwork from various materials such as pottery, leather and weaved wares.

There was time to sit down and watch a regional dance and thankfully small as I am me and my group were ushered to front row seats.  It was endearing to hear the musical story of a grandfather telling his grandson of a past event.  The dancers were indeed energetic and many in numbers.

A further stroll around the festival will lead you to an area where there are government organisations. Art museums proudly display paintings and craftwork.

You can have henna tattoos done, listen to folk poetry, visit the food stalls, tour castles

or just sit down and relax and soak in the atmosphere.

    • Hi, I’m still in my early stages with my blog believe it or not.:)
      For me, it doesn’t seem like it takes too much work. The background work is what needs to be organized and this is a learning curve for me.
      I’m clear about what I want to achieve for the couple or so hours that I work on the blog.
      I aim to work within a flexible time frame and then leave it for the next time.
      I think it is important to come to the blog with a clear and fresh perspective (if possible :))
      The design and layout of the blog has to be tailor made to suit you. Once you’re relatively happy with this, the rest will work for itself and you can concentrate of spending more time on posts etc.
      Your ability to keep a daily diary is a good skill to possess. You will benefit from time management, possibly a weekly schedule setting out what you want to write about on each day of the week. This will give you momentum and keep you focussed on producing work for the day ahead.

      You have nothing to worry about – your love of writing is your expressive talent – do it!

  45. First off I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick
    question that I’d like to ask if you don’t mind.
    I was interested to find out how you center yourself and clear
    your thoughts prior to writing. I’ve had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.
    I do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the
    first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin.

    • Yes, this happens.
      I focus on one idea at a time. If I have more than one I put them in draft and leave them there until my brain is ready to deal with them!
      I keep the theme of the post simple and build on it. At the moment, I’m not to have too ‘long reads’. As a newbie I’m concentrating on fine tuning the messages I want to get out there.
      In your mind be clear about what you want to say. If you don’t feel ready, leave it and come back to it, your brain and fingers will thank you!
      See the beginning as a challenge and not a problem. I keep referring to the title of my post. I’ve given it a title, what do I want the reader to now next?
      Remember, you don’t always have to start at the beginning. Maybe you have this terrific phrase that you must put in the middle or end of the post – get that down.
      See your post as your friend if you like. Your sitting down to have a chat with a friend. What would you say to that person? Your friend does not want to see fail.
      I could suggest a lot more. Let me know how you get on. You can do it!
