I ventured again to Riyadh, or the outskirts to be exact, in April 2013 for the annual Janadriyah Cultural Festival which is organised by the National Festival for Heritage and Culture. From an expat perspective, the festival is an opportunity to get up close and personal with some ancient Saudi history and see cultural activities.
On arrival at the festival it became evident just how big was the festival, many people with lots of things to see. Fortunately we had a guide so we were ushered from museum, to traditional houses with bridal suites to fisherman making their nets and women selling their traditional craftwork from various materials such as pottery, leather and weaved wares.
There was time to sit down and watch a regional dance and thankfully small as I am me and my group were ushered to front row seats. It was endearing to hear the musical story of a grandfather telling his grandson of a past event. The dancers were indeed energetic and many in numbers.
A further stroll around the festival will lead you to an area where there are government organisations. Art museums proudly display paintings and craftwork.
You can have henna tattoos done, listen to folk poetry, visit the food stalls, tour castles
or just sit down and relax and soak in the atmosphere.

I’m new to the blog world, and always loved writing. I’m a novice in terms of advising you on recommended ways to start your blog, so I will go by my own experience.
The whole process started for me quite quickly as I finally made a decision to start my own blog. (I wish I had done it a long time ago – ignorance is not bliss in this caee!) 🙂 I researched some of the free platforms and decided on WordPress. It seemed to suit my requirements as a new blogger in terms of its simplicity and helpful information. I would need to research paid platforms to be able to make an informative comment on this. I did look at other blog sites but it became clear that I wanted to get my own ideas out there and not be confused by all the information out there. I keep everything simple, from idea, to layout, written style and the message I want to get across. I find this works for me because then I am working to my own true style without being influenced or distracted by the peripherals. This keeps me on tract and helps me to stay focussed and geared to building my own site and staying passionate about the reason I wanted to blog in the first place – writing.
Don’t think too much about it, just do it!
Keep things simple. Look at what works for you and adopt information which will enhance your blog.
Don’t be distracted by to critical comments and be happy with your writing.
Good luck and well come aboard if you join WordPress!
